Willow Hurdles (rustic fencing)

Hurdles were traditionally used for fencing in livestock but have now become a very  popular form of rustic fencing.   I run occasional workshops to learn the skill of hurdle making on an ad hoc basis, if this is something that may be of interest to you please do get in touch.

The hurdles will not have been treated with a wood preservative at time of purchase or construction.  The traditional method used is a 50:50 mix of boiled Linseed Oil and Turpentine, not particularly organic but effective and this is best done when the willow has dried out, anything from a few weeks to a few months.
However if you would like to go more organic then we use a mix of linseed oil and tung oil, this is a slightly more expensive process and may not be as effective.
They can of course be left to age naturally and will eventually turn a silver grey colour.

The fencing can be done in situ.  Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
