Living Willow

One of the most exciting aspects of working with willow for me is creating living willow structures.  Domes, tunnels, arbours, igloos, tepees let your imagination go wild!

The season for planting living willow is December through to the end of March, outside these times it is possible but not ideal.

If you are interested in a living willow structure in your garden or at your establishment please contact me for more information and to discuss your specific requirements. I will often run a living willow workshop around February/March time please contact me if you are interested or sign up to my newsletter to be kept up to date.  Alternatively if you are local and would like me to run a workshop at your home for a group of you please contact me to discuss.

This 5 meter tunnel is at the Canal Park in Bath.  I will be going back twice a year to maintain it so i'm really looking forward to watching it grow and evolve.  As you can see currently the willow doesn't even reach the central point.

This dome is in our garden.  It was planted in February 2013.  It can seat 3 or 4 young children quite comfortably.

Some living willow projects with local schools

The nature of the work involved to create a living willow structure does make it quite difficult for very young children to have a great input into the construction.  Year
4 and up can be involved at varying levels but younger than that parent volunteers are generally required to assist me. Not normally a problem to   recruit!  When the children are involved in the construction it will often help with the ongoing care and respect for the structure as they feel a level of ownership and will encourage others to do the same.
